Accept your emotions to feel alive

We are too likely to view our emotions as signs of weakness that must be suppressed. Yet these body reactions are essential. Here is how to Accept your emotions to feel alive.

Summary

  1. Why do we deny our emotions?
  2. They scare us
  3. Why listen to your emotions?
  4. Avoid that they do not express themselves by the disease
  5. The proper use of emotions

Emotions are both physiological and psychological reactions to a disturbing situation. They provoke physical manifestations (flight movements, acceleration of the heart, laughter, tears …) which testify to powerful inner sensations. Emotions are life, it’s almost a banality to say it. The main ones are: joy, sadness, desire, fear, disgust, anger …

Emotions are finally adaptation reactions: they take off in the region of the cerebellar amygdala, a group of almond-shaped neurons located fairly deep in the brain. The involvement of the amygdala is thus demonstrated today by neuroscience (by functional MRI, magnetic resonance imaging) in the activation of the fear circuit.

Why do we deny our emotions?

The essence of emotions is their power. They give us the impression of being able to take everything in their path. They represent a risk of loss of control over ourselves, our body, our intelligence, the image we give to others. Examples: anger can lead to violence; joy can lead us to ridicule ourselves (at least we fear it). Accept your emotions to feel alive.

They scare us

Our emotions therefore scare us. And we are afraid of the emotions of others, since we know too well the power of ours. At the social level, they cause fear of disorder, and all civilizations in one way or another prohibit the uncontrolled expression of emotions. They admit them in organized and well channeled forms. Basically, emotion causes fear of the drive: the act.

Why listen to your emotions?

Listening to your emotions is undoubtedly reconnecting with yourself. And thus (re) find its capacity to interact finely with others, to be happy, to feel alive far from this state of deep indifference which can develop when the emotion is systematically suppressed for a long time.

Avoid that they do not express themselves by the disease

In fact, emotions are phenomena so primary, so essential, that they must be expressed in one way or another. The repression of all spontaneity is paid for.

By stifling our emotions, we leave them for issue only the language of the body, and more precisely of the disease: psychosomatic disease at the physical level or phobias …

The proper use of emotions

Know how to identify your emotions. Lost in educational and social codes, we are often no longer able to recognize our emotions in their most natural. We lose the ability to live them fully (joy, laughter sometimes).

Know how to name your emotions. Putting the right words on these sensations that have become indistinct allows them to regain their intensity. Expressing your emotions is a way to find your true way of being, thinking and perceiving.

Don’t be afraid to question yourself deeply. Beyond the education which aims to help the child take control of his emotions, the way we manage our emotions is intimately linked to our way of being in the world and the perception that we have of us- even. Work on emotions (via analysis for example) is always upsetting.
